Can 4amp monitor run on 6amp power supply?
My monitor is stamped with a sticker that says 12v 4 amp. I hooked up a spare 12v 6amp power supply and it’s running fine. Am I just going to end up frying my monitor? Also, can someone finally explain volts and amps and how electronics draw power to run properly? Thanks.
Thanks so much to all and yes I got very lucky with the plug fitting, it’s from one of two external Seagate Hard Drives I don’t use.
Yes it will work fine. Think of volts as pressure and amps as the flow (like water).
When you hook up an appliance it just draws the amps (current flow) that it needs to work. Like you can turn on a faucet to adjust the flow you need.
If the volts (pressure) is too high it can overcome the regulation of the appliance and let too many amps flow – blow out the fuse, wiring or switch and maybe smoke and get really hot.
If you hook up a 12 volt appliance to 110 volts for example the pressure will “burst its pipes”!
Dont ask about AC and DC save that for another day…..
